As I understand from this post, the HotA team did not use any underhanded tactics; Baratorch contacted Sav himself, agreed not to make an Overhaul for SoD, and is interested in promoting HotA.

From this post, it follows that Baratorch, who has always helped with the ND mod, for which he deserves great thanks, tried or wanted to create an Overhaul for SoD. Later, when he had the opportunity to work on this, he encountered a lot of problems that would require considerable effort, but the person does not have enough time for this. And he decides to contact Sav so that he could help him with the Overhaul, and most likely with the Overhaul for SoD, judging by his train of thought while writing the post. But at one point, Sav makes him promise that he will provide him with materials, he will create an Overhaul for HotA, and will not undertake to create an Overhaul for SoD. From all this, it follows that 1. Baratorch doesn't need an Overhaul in SoD because if it were the other way around, he would have made it, albeit with more time spent (well, that's his business and his right), and 2, that Sav, having taken a promise (and I think the entire HotA team agrees with this decision), did not want there to be an Overhaul in SoD so that his HotA would thus have an advantage over SoD. That’s all.
IMHO, it would be better to add an Overhaul to both SoD and HotA and see what people would play, but no, a promise was given (and this is certainly not an underhanded tactic). In fact, even with the Overhaul in HotA, everyone continues to play SoD as they did before, using the regular timer. There is an opinion that if an Overhaul was added to SoD and everyone started using it, then HotA might be forgotten soon, of course, we are talking about the ХВ community.
