If the Heroist hadn't been killed at night, they could have easily been lynched during the day because the evidence looked quite convincing, if not better than real evidence. In reality, when a player only needs more than 50% + 1 vote, instead of simply the maximum number of votes, it's much easier for the town. It's easier for the town because it's extremely difficult to gather all the votes from the town members into one target.
