When Ctrl is held down, units attack with melee, and Furies and Beasts don't retreat. For example, Assassins, who have a penalty for ranged attacks but no penalty in melee, attack with melee 2 times stronger than with ranged attacks. At the same time, they don't lose their poisoning ability. The AI often uses this.

Vsadnitsa_paladin, install patches 1.4 > 1.41 > 1.5, and everything will work. If patching in a non-standard way, installing 1.41 is not necessary.
