Excellent scouting (found many reviews in related forums), eliminating two companions, plus a couple of strategically placed Hives, allowed me to catch the opponent off guard and win the final battle.

It seemed to me that one road was blocked, and the other was long, stretching across the entire map. The opponent, on the other hand, had short paths with many intersections.
