"You haven't been here for a while." Leon, the head of the guard, was strong and tall, distinguished by excellent combat skills, and his handsome appearance (by human standards), combined with a honeyed voice, ensured him great popularity among peasant girls - something like the most eligible bachelor in the village, to use plebeian language. Reginald's mansion was located in a rural area, so there was no hope of meeting city beauties.
"This time, I had to deal with stubborn troublemakers."
"Oh?" Leon undoubtedly disliked the elf. He didn't like his cold nature, his appearance, and not least the fact that out of all his subordinates, Reginald trusted him the most. "And how did you handle them?"
"I had to take out the trash." The ice in the elf's voice only angered the warrior, but the sorcerer didn't wait for his answer and calmly walked deeper into the house, without waiting for permission from the head of the guard.
He didn't have to look for the landowner in the confusing corridors of the huge mansion; Reginald de Fournié received him in the living room.
"Ah, Elhazel, my dear friend, come in, don't be shy," said the old man, inviting the elf to the fireplace. "You must be tired after all the work you've done." In reality, this wasn't true; before coming here, the sorcerer had slept well at home. However, there was no point in mentioning it. "It took you longer this time."
"There are more and more people dissatisfied with your rule. I had to weed out a few weeds." What does it mean to be the right hand of a large and influential landowner? A lot of work and headaches, that's what. While the landlord has fun and relaxes, his right hand keeps order on his lands. There were, however, some positive aspects – a wide range of privileges, influence, money.
"So that's how it is! Well, since you dealt with the problem, that's great. Good job, now eat some more of these soft Bedinge buns and drink some tea!"
"Perhaps I won't refuse." People were certainly flawed, but they made excellent baked goods. And the smell was pleasant, and the taste was just right.
And so passed the life of the elf outside Todalen, but everything comes to an end, and everyone awaits change. After a few weeks, the old landowner would die of a heart attack, and he wouldn't be able to establish such productive relationships with his successor. Deciding that it was time to move on, the elf took some savings from his temporary home and set off. On the same day he left this place, a wave of grief swept through the village - the best warrior in the de Fournié family hanged himself in his own room.
