WoG installation sequence 1. Download all WoG files and run the self-extracting RAR archive.
2. WoG may not work correctly in Windows if the system language is not English. This is likely to happen for Swedish. So, we recommend that you:
- check in the Windows "Control Panel" -> "Language and Regional Settings" and if the language is English or Russian, everything is fine;
- otherwise, change the language to English (Russian) and the country to Canada, Great Britain, Russia, or the USA in the "Control Panel" -> "Language and Regional Settings".
3. Make sure you have removed all other mods and add-ons from all Heroes folders (especially from the Data folder). We recommend that you:
- make a full copy of your Heroes (SoD or HC);
- uninstall Heroes (SoD or HC);
- manually delete all files in the Heroes folder;
- reinstall Heroes (SoD or HC) in the same folder.
The full path to the Heroes folder (SoD or HC) should contain only LATIN characters
(example: "C:\Games\Heroes3" is acceptable, "C:\Игры\Heroes3" is not).
4. Now, run install.exe in the WoG download package. Follow the further instructions. Be patient - the installation may take some time (up to half an hour)!
5. After installing WoG, if you changed the regional language/country settings, you can change them back.
6. You can run either WoG (H3WOG.EXE) or SoD / HC (HEROES3.EXE), whichever you prefer. Both versions should work.
7. In addition to the original SoD / HC, you get the WoG map editor (H3WMAPED.EXE).
- The WoG map editor can load maps from RoE, AB, SoD, or WoG and save them as RoE, AB, or WoG;
- The WoG map editor cannot generate random maps; use the SoD editor for this purpose, then load the map into the WoG editor;
8. In addition to your SoD / HC campaign editor, you get the WoG campaign editor (H3WCMPED.EXE).
9. You will get a new folder in the Windows menu: "New Life of Heroes". See there for a complete list of tools and documentation.
10. If you download additional WoG files after your initial WoG installation, you do not need to reinstall WoG. Place the new downloaded files in the UPDATE folder in the Heroes directory and run H3WUPD.EXE. The program will automatically find all new files and allow you to install them.
I downloaded this file, did as instructed (POSSIBLY I made a mistake somewhere, but I can't find the error, or maybe it doesn't exist), but when I start the installation, it throws an error about "some file does not exist or is corrupted."
During installation:

Location of Heroes 3 The Shadow of Death: C:\Program files\Buka\Heroes3\ and WoG Instal cannot find Heroes in this directory. The folder where it found it itself is C:\Program files\Buka\Герои 3 Дыхание смерти Меча и Магии\, but this is not allowed because of the Russian name, as it was said. It was checked with a Russian name, the same thing happens.
I REALLY WANT TO PLAY WoG!!! PLEASE HELP!!! Thank you in advance!
