The Makarov case is a court case accusing Vladimir Makarov, an official from the Ministry of Transport, initially of sexual assault, and later of indecent acts towards his own 7-year-old daughter in July 2010. The case gained significant public attention in Russia due to the contradictory nature of the evidence collected and the conviction despite the presence of numerous circumstantial clues, but with a complete lack of direct evidence of guilt.

On September 5, 2011, Vladimir Makarov was sentenced to 13 years in a strict-regime penal colony by the Tagan District Court of Moscow on charges of sexual assault on a minor. The accusation was based solely on circumstantial evidence – the opinion of a child psychologist and the opinion of a polygraph expert.
