Recently, we spent almost 3 hours troubleshooting the TV connection. I was already annoyed by the pop-up messages like "Are you stealing? Look there!", but when the connection started dropping constantly because of it, plus TV11 got new performance issues – almost a minute of lag when connecting – my conditioned reflex that "you can't break free programs" broke down. I found a patched, portable version of 9 on a popular tracker. Damn, it's good.
I suggest installing it as the default for everyone who is annoyed by the constant suspicious windows, and who is tired of constantly installing new, feature-rich versions. It's better not to use it at work, even though it's free in theory).
It works, obviously, without any services (I'm incredibly annoyed by extra processes in startup, and the service itself sometimes freezes – you have to restart it – many don't know how – so they have to reboot – but this service is only needed by pro/admins, not us). I'll test the connection with other versions, but it seems to be OK. Although, for VPN, it requires virtual network card drivers, which can be installed separately – or the regular version of TV that was installed before.
*another plus – the icon for an inactive connection doesn't constantly appear in the system tray. *no, it still appears.
*and another one – the contact manager, which didn't remember anything in my version. It always wanted to connect via HW IDs, instead of requiring me to enter them every time.
*and even another one – you can set a permanent password, which also didn't work in the regular version).
