doesn't the wizard's sign affect Armageddon, Holy/Unholy Word, Phoenix, and Elementals???

No, it doesn't affect such large-scale spells; at most, it affects Fireball, Ring of Cold, Meteor Shower, Stone Spikes, and Chain Lightning. Also, you can't summon two squads of Phoenixes or Elementals. However, it does affect things like Phantom, Crystal Prison, Wall of Swords, and Hive.
