It certainly looks like it. Okay, I can still come up with a different interpretation for the newspaper headline, but the picture suggests mana activity.

And if he did use his ultimate ability, what was it?

I'd like to know.

Could he have infected Rick?

I wish that were true, but Yashur's death seems to suggest that he actually slept with Lyusya. And in the description of the infection on the second night, I don't see any hint that mana pretended to be Lyusya. There must have been something else. I have no idea what it was.
