Well, I don't know, it seems to me that it was a risky self-fulfilling move. After all, Alex was the initiator, and Dag just added his vote, assuming that Heinness wouldn't hang anyway. In any case, I don't see another explanation – I'm almost certain who the merks are, and the remaining two can't be mages because of the blocks.
