You need to finish your turn (day) faster than your opponent, and while you're waiting for them, you wait as usual – you can scroll the map, etc. At the beginning of a new turn (day), both players may choose not to take their turn, take a break, and think as long as they want (if the option to start the timer after taking a turn is enabled, as in the regular game), but they can't scroll the map, of course.
Based on this, when you have a situation with many possible chains, and your opponent is already waiting for you, you either let the timer run out, or, like the idiot in the screenshot, you don't take your turn and keep thinking about how to play better, or are there other options?
