How does the game run with a licensed copy? Does it save campaign progress, and does it not crash?

The licensed version is more stable; a friend bought it and is slowly progressing through the campaign. But he has 16 GB of RAM, and I saw the process consuming over 8 GB.
Also, after crashes, which still happen, the licensed version tends to leave the old process in memory, which prevents the new process from running properly and causes it to lag.

By the way, try pressing ESC during the loading of a battle. The effect is amazing.

As far as I understand, the campaign progress issue has been fixed with a patch, but before that, it wouldn't save, so I'm not sure how it was. I generally don't like campaigns in Heroes, especially the recent ones. There's always a time limit, you have to rush, and you can't play peacefully.
