Why would you even break the catapult?

I was playing for speed (for my own enjoyment) with fire magic, and my army that month just couldn't defeat the Minotaurs. It was a very, very long battle in the style of "Vengeance is Mine" and other Chinese maps.

On the other hand, I'm not a very experienced player. Could you elaborate on what you meant? Or maybe a screenshot of the army and the battlefield? Perhaps I'm missing something and that's why I'm struggling.
