Mana isn't a big deal. I was trying to position the boat to see the maximum number of creatures on this island and have 2-3 free spaces after the griffins.

I cared about mana because I usually can't conserve it, and after each serious battle with enemy AI, I was left with little or no mana, so I didn't waste even 2-3 mana points unnecessarily.
