Has anyone encountered such a strange moment: I decided to play without capturing the Wolf's castles, and at some point I noticed that this side quest had failed. Why?

I tried to complete the mission - we come in peace, I only took a neutral castle, and rebuilt the castle that came to me after capturing the lighthouse; maybe I didn't complete the mission because I defeated the wolf hero? And can I now calmly capture the wolf's castles?
probably shouldn't have rebuilt the castle then everything would have been good.... has anyone completed the side quest We come in peace?
