I will still disagree with the boss :). Firstly, the initial troop placement completely changes the battle tactics, and a simple rearrangement won't achieve this – the opponent isn't always slower. Secondly, it prevents your opponent from doing the same. And finally, it provides mass and density for defense/attack. This is simply a great feature, not just a skill. It doesn't always allow you to change something, but it does so very often.
