That's not really the issue at all. The issue is the history: people played SoD for a very long time and are familiar with such a game firsthand. It doesn't need advertising; it's a completely different matter with World Tournament.
WT is an amazing thing, no argument there. I myself enjoyed playing it. But gradually, tournaments for it disappeared or were held once a year, at most twice. I saw no influx of new players, and even old ones sometimes dropped out. At its best, there were about 50 people in the chat. Later, much fewer. And that was just to laugh at a repeated joke or troll Vlk there. There were no organizers working on its image and promotion; the rating was updated with great difficulty. And gradually people quit WT and moved to where the organization was better (to HeroesWorld), where players came in on their own because they were already familiar with SoD. Later, the competitive HD mod started to improve, and WT became even less popular.
