RTF is a global modification that replaces all towns in the game.

This could simply be achieved by calling them trolls and giving them hardened skin, and then everything would work out.

Personally, I would like to see them as neutrals, but definitely not as a faction.

You could even create several neutrals with a unified style and related descriptions: trolls, gargoyles, troglodytes.
