I strongly recommend not having separate bidding for the hero's color, but rather a single bid for the right to choose the color/hero.
Because separate bidding greatly escalates the dispute – if someone buys both the color and the hero for a decent discount (3-5K), then, depending on the situation, this may either not be noticeable at all, or it may ruin the player right from the start. This is especially bad for mirror matches, as it makes them less of a mirror match.
This has been repeatedly tested in Warlords Tavern. It has reached the point of absurdity – you buy a Castle for a good discount, and realize that buying the color as well is not very profitable; it's better to sell it, but for a good price (to at least partially compensate). However, your opponent also understands this, and therefore tries to also sell you the color, but also for a non-zero amount – to completely screw you over financially. Mind games begin, which, in my opinion, distorts the idea of bidding.
I would like to hear the opinions of the tournament participants, especially the experienced ones, on this matter. Perhaps this condition should be changed, but it needs to be done before the start of the next stage.
