Google has launched a new service, YouTube Gaming, which is entirely focused on videos dedicated to games. A direct competitor to Twitch, based on the YouTube video hosting platform, is positioned by the internet search engine as a streaming platform. Users can watch reviews, trailers, and Walkthroughs, play games, discuss new releases, and also broadcast their Gameplay to a wide audience.
In general, the features of YouTube Gaming are the same as those of Twitch. The service is available through a web interface as a subsite of YouTube (gaming.youtube.com), as well as in the form of applications for Android devices and iPhones. When launching the program, users will see a search bar in front of them (at the top), and below it – a list of channels and popular videos, including the official Metal Gear Solid V stream, a speedrun of Until Dawn, and a live show of Eve Online.
By going to the Games tab, you can find all the videos related to a specific game. Favorite games can be added to favorites and used to create your own lists. The second tab, Channels, is divided into two parts. The first half presents channels with live broadcasts, sorted by the number of subscribers, and the bottom half – those that are currently offline. By going to a channel, users can watch live video and chat.
The application description states that YouTube Gaming contains videos about more than 25,000 games. The program allows you to receive recommendations based on your favorite games, as well as watch live broadcasts of major gaming exhibitions and conferences, such as E3, PAX, and Gamescom, in real time.
