Ignatius prayed for their souls and, trying to be quiet and inconspicuous, began to search the house.

Ignatius found nothing except the obvious fact that a large number of people had been here. They apparently used this house to rest and regain their strength.

Well, I don't want to overcomplicate things (just a little hint here), so I'll assume that Ignatius continued westward.

Continuing along the same road, Ignatius stops when he sees a suspicious object on the road. As he gets closer, he recognizes it as the severed head of the very priest who had tasked him with cleansing the church.
Strange sounds were coming from somewhere in the forest.
