Jaya led James to the Temple of Melibea. Inside, it was very dark, and only torches provided dim lighting. In the center stood a large statue of a woman; she wore a blindfold, held scales in her left hand, and her right arm was bent at the elbow and raised upwards, palm facing the sky. Women walked around, their eyes covered by similar black blindfolds. They seemed to be performing some kind of rituals, as far as James could tell. However, Jaya didn't talk to any of them or explain anything; instead, she led Jimmy deeper into the building, into the cells. There, she introduced him to a certain man and said that he was involved in buying various items that could not be sold legally.
