When I described this spell, I imagined a mage who sees (suspects/knows that) a person (or people) is about to harm him and casts a shield that protects against attacks and bad spells.
Revan, this buff makes sense in its original, long-lasting form, as the GM told me. Removing this part of the mechanic makes the spell meaningless. It would have been better if I had known this; I would have taken a different, more appropriate ability. Instead, I took something that turned out to be non-functional, which was presented to me as functional.
If you want, you can change it to something else. But just so you know, I haven't canceled the fact that the shield doesn't fade over time.
