In general, if a fight starts between the players' characters and the slave traders, Lucina tries to stun one of the latter with her ability, and then helps in the battle in a normal way (shooting from a relatively safe place), thus hoping to gain access to the ship as a thank you for her help.

The motivation is, of course, not great, but, as I think, it's a good way to join the team.
