In short, I think the Halekhids need a slight buff, if not in stats/abilities, then in some other ability. And I'm not saying this just because I might create a character of that nationality.
Players get 45 stat points (distributed across 7 stats). Not very generous, but everyone is on equal footing; you just need to think carefully about your choices.
There's "Battle Mage" (30 stat points for 4 skill points, a real powerhouse, I'll definitely be taking it), and "Scholar" (15 for 3).
There's also the "Histeosia" bonus (+17 stat points), and the Children of Winter (Orcs) get +25.
I don't know how much these stats will affect the Gameplay, but a bonus of around 50% of the base value is significant. :smile19:
The following is just a detailed analysis, so feel free to skip it.
There are 9 character origin options, including:
2 universal) Madinia: 10 stat points, 4 skill points; Halekhids: 4 skill points
2 warrior) Histeosia: 17 stat points, 4 combat skill points; Children of Winter (Orcs): 25 stat points plus a passive ability
2 tank) R'yorvalia: 50% damage reduction, 2 fixed skill points; Seveseptim: 0 to 25 stat points and 3 fixed skill points
2 ranged) Letii (High Elves): 10 stat points, 2-3 skill points; Heliotria: 5 stat points, 2 fixed skill points plus a unique ability
1 merchant) 5 fixed skill points
Now let's compare.
Madinia 1 - 0 Halekhids. Why do the Halekhids even exist? :p
R'yorvalia 1 - 1 Seveseptim. Well... let's assume Seveseptim takes 30 Constitution (I'm not considering Alex). 150 extra HP plus armor against 50% reduction of magical damage and useless scouting (useless in the context of a tank role, which is how I envision the class with damage reduction).
So, Seveseptim is a more versatile class, as HP will help against everything. And R'yorvalia is better against mages, but has no bonuses against warriors. 1-1, okay.
Histeosia 1 - 0 Children of Winter (Orcs). Perhaps the Orcs' passive ability will make a difference, but the player doesn't know in advance if it will or not. And taking a gamble instead of the sweet 4 skill points isn't for us. (and they're sweet primarily because there are only 8 basic skills, and a lot of available skills. Plus, again, 4 is half of 8, which means 50% MORE skill points than the Orcs).
Letii (High Elves) 1 - 1 Heliotria. Looks balanced. The Letii have slightly more stat points, and Heliotria has a unique ability.
Therefore, the Halekhids and Lakelia seem weak to me.
p.s. I initially wanted to create Raiden (before Ment published the questionnaire). A warrior whose weapon deals electric damage. Then I calculated how many stat and skill points I would need for him, and abandoned the idea. For a character like that Battle Mage, you need to invest in 6 out of 7 stats (everything except Perception), definitely take the 4-point "Battle Mage" skill, plus invest in the weapon skill tree and the combat magic skill tree. Of course, without thinking about zoologists or archaeologists. As you can see, it's impossible to do that with only 8 skill points.
