The only downside with creeps is that it gets annoying to have to run around the entire map with those poor imps, constantly fleeing from the attacking neutrals in every battle. That's why I usually sacrifice the efficiency of the game for the sake of my own time :) (I keep the imps with one hero and try to avoid battles that are likely to last about an hour due to the "attack-retreat-attack-retreat, etc." mechanic).
