We're not talking about "sacrificing yourself for the sake of the game," we're not talking about statements like "I think so-and-so is Mafia." We're talking about a specific method: "I'm putting my life on the line to get X eliminated." That's going too far. It's okay if you say, "If he's not Mafia, please block/kill me tonight." But threatening a modkill is just being an asshole. Trust me, as someone with experience in IRL Mafia, if you go to a respectable club and say something like, "Guys, let's execute him; if he's not Mafia, I'll reveal my role and leave the game," they simply won't let you play anymore. It's a taboo. Just a taboo. If you're an Investigator and you don't have the brains to play your role properly, except by threatening suicide if you're not listened to, then don't play Mafia.
