In general, we will randomly assign countries to our characters, based on where they were born. In my opinion, this will be more fun than choosing a country in the usual way.

I'm all for it. Simply because I like random setups. On the other hand, the country of origin might provide some bonuses, and other players might want to choose those bonuses.
