According to the Quran, Muslims are prohibited from engaging in trade and usury. They strictly adhered to this. Trade was permitted only in exceptional cases.
As for religious tolerance:
1) Until the 20th century, Catholics in England faced discrimination (to the point where they could not hold certain positions).
2) Until the 20th century, only Orthodox Christians could hold high positions in the Russian Empire.
3) In Germany, it was only after unification that people were allowed to choose their own religion (before that, the religion of the subjects was the religion of the ruler).
This was the case throughout the world. What did Muslims invent that was so special, other than the fact that there were special positions for non-Muslims at the caliph's court?
