In the history of the Roman Empire, after the "turning point" decision of Constantine the Great to Christianize the empire, there was a strong reaction against this from the pagan side, which culminated in the reign of Julian the Apostate, who revived paganism and restored the temples that had been seized by Christians. In general, we can say that neither Christianity nor Islam was accepted "peacefully." Again, Rus' is also no exception, and pagan beliefs persisted for a very long time, up to the 14th-15th centuries, or even later (the film "Andrei Rublev"), although they were relentlessly persecuted.
