I see randomness as an opportunity to play with a weaker faction, without initially putting myself in a losing position, and also to play with more diverse combinations of matchups between factions. For example, it's unlikely that many people would choose Tower vs. Swamp, but it's quite possible to play that matchup if, for example, Mirlanda starts for the Swamp player.
I assume that players who are seriously aiming for victory will not choose randomness. And I myself, when leaving a group, would prefer to choose a specific faction rather than randomness. But in a group, I want to play with randomness.
