Mika, I actually have two strong objections to voting in a separate thread: 1) The GM will have to read "all this mountain of chatter" every time they enter the thread, and in the process, they may note changes in the votes and post "the latest rankings of candidates as of." And you will only have to scroll through the thread from the end to the GM's post with the results.

2) "Mafia-related manipulations" are much easier to disguise this way. If you ask a player why they voted to execute X, and they say, "I don't remember, I explained my vote – you can find it yourself," that's...

Oven, it's not about the results; they can be in any random order. It's about the time when someone voted. Later, you can analyze the thread and see what was happening at that moment, go through the players (for example, if Mika said throughout the game that he doesn't believe Oven, but suddenly voted for Kosh without explanation, then Mika will become a suspect). If you don't remember what was in the thread, you can simply look at the voting pattern. I found half of the mafia players by looking at the votes without newspapers in the game we just played. Again, it's important who started the leak, who added to it, when. Who switched sides when. The GM's results are just a line of statistics showing the votes for each candidate, and that's it.
