Mafia 90. The Tale of Oldforest.

The novel "TASS Authorized to Declare..." takes place in the late 1970s in Moscow and in fictional African states – Nagonia, where a pro-Soviet regime is in power, and an unnamed neighboring capitalist state with its capital in the city of Louisburg. Soviet counterintelligence receives an anonymous letter indicating that the CIA has recruited a Soviet specialist in Louisburg who is extremely knowledgeable about Soviet supplies to Nagonia (including military supplies). Since the situation in Nagonia is tense, and both the United States and China want to overthrow the pro-Soviet government, capturing the spy becomes a top priority for the KGB. The operation is led by Major General Konstantin Konstantinov (in Moscow) and his deputy, Colonel Vitaly Slavin (in Louisburg). Ultimately, they manage to identify the CIA agent Dubov, codenamed "Smart" (in the TV series, the agent's codename is "Trianon"), and catch the employees of the Moscow CIA residency red-handed. To avoid an international scandal, the United States ceases its support for the Nagonian rebels, and a military coup in Nagonia does not take place. The novel is partially based on real events – the prototype for Dubov-Smart was Alexander Ogorodnik, an employee of the Department of America of the Directorate for Planning Foreign Policy Activities of the USSR Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Dubov's codename in the novel is "Smart," while in the series, the codename of the real prototype of Dubov, Ogorodnik, was used – "Trianon." The prototype for Vitaly Slavin was Julian Semenov's friend, KGB General Vyacheslav Kevorkov[2].
