Mafia 90. The Tale of Oldforest.

The sun was setting on the horizon. The villagers hurried to hide their livestock behind thorny fences and went to their homes. Few had the courage to walk alone this night. Everyone had heard about the pranks of evil forces, and no one wanted to become the next victim. Only the warlord boasted and yearned for battle. The wizard remained in seclusion in his hut; they said he was preparing for a great spell, and no one dared to disturb him.
A knight, passing by the village, became interested in the local rumors and offered his help in protecting against the evil. He was not frightened by the villagers' stories of swamp spirits and ferocious werewolves.
One of the villagers turned out to be literate and offered everyone who had any suspicions about the source of the troubles to share them with him. He wrote down these suspicions on beech tablets and posted them in the square, thus the first village newspaper, "The Herald of Starolesye," appeared.
The priest spent the whole evening reading prayers in honor of Perun, blessing the village warriors for their heroic deeds. He himself did not intend to stand aside.
The guardian, sensing trouble in her heart, gazed into the surface of the lake, trying to see the fate of the inhabitants and prevent the misfortune.
Amidst all this bustle, a small owlet with piercing green eyes phlegmatically observed from the top of an old oak tree.
