It would be interesting to understand what the appeal of a chess timer is... I just don't have much experience and can't quite figure it out... I'm used to the one on Sod's.

The advantage is that you can play with accumulated time. If you accumulate an hour by the 4th week, you can play with multiple heroes in a non-blitz mode with time control, using the accumulated time. In the past, Sod's timer cost me a loss in the final, and since then, I haven't liked it very much. Plus, it's a way to deal with slow thinkers, in a way.
