Mafia 87. At the Dawn of War

I don't understand two things.
1. What has the Guardian been doing for the second night in a row? Now she only has one goal – to protect the Deathbringer.
2. What actually happened on the first day? Why do we see Ples being killed by "bandits," and then here again, there's an attempt to kill the Red-Haired Seer, and the Seer is protected by the Guardian?
"I saw a red-haired man bump into a woman in a hood on the street. They went their separate ways, but after they had moved apart, the woman turned around, and I felt a surge of magical energy emanating from her. Nevertheless, some instinct told the man what was going on, and he quickly ran into an alley, dodging the attack. The sorceress didn't pursue the target and continued on her way, while the red-haired man, after waiting a bit in hiding, soon went on his way as well."

Maybe "bandits" refers to the Mafia, not a specific Mafia group? Then "Edward Cullen and Black Beatrice" – is that a clue to the Master?
