I'm betting that one of them is dead, and the other either skipped their turn or is under the influence of the Handmaiden's ability. Or it's a trap, by the way.

A trap won't work - it redirects, but doesn't cancel the ability. But the Handmaiden's tricks are quite possible. Tox, if the Handmaiden takes away someone's ability, do you inform the player about what was taken?
