A third world war involving nuclear weapons is unlikely. With the current stockpiles, it would be the last war for humanity. I think even complete idiots wouldn't risk that. However, a war for Russia's legacy is quite possible.

...Once, a prominent scientist (though I can't remember who) was asked what kind of weapons would be used in the third world war: nuclear, thermonuclear, or hydrogen. He replied that he didn't know what kind, but he was sure that in the fourth world war, people would use clubs and stones.
