Menta was accused of all the wrongdoings, and, as was customary, the guards of the Valley of Roses burst into Menta's home, seized him, and then dragged him to the square, where they were going to behead him. However, this did not happen. Not only the spectators gathered around the square but also all the other townsfolk caused chaos: they attacked the guards, looted shops and wealthy homes, rioted, and behaved no better than wild animals. In the situation that had developed, the city's defenders simply didn't have time for the accused.
