As far as I know, it would be more expensive. Good 2D is more expensive than 3D. Especially considering that models from the sixth game were used in Might & Magic X.

2D games are still being made, and even isometric ones. It's not hard to find 2D games on Steam.
How many fans of Heroes of Might and Magic III are there? A couple of hundred thousand? And Heroes of Might and Magic V? Seven hundred thousand?
1) You pulled those numbers out of thin air.
2) Even fans may not like a particular element of the game. I know many people who like the fifth game but would like it to be 2D.
