"How foolish to get caught," Adrian thought. "I need to be more careful in the future." Adrian cautiously moved away from the trap to a safe distance and began to observe, waiting to see if anyone would come to check it.
At first, no one came, but after an hour or so, two figures appeared in Adrian's field of vision. Two humanoid reptiles approached the trap and, finding no one inside, simply reset it.
During the journey, Amos Selig continued to monitor Mearef, his belongings, and his surroundings, hoping that the poisoner would reveal himself in some way.
Over the past few days, Amos Selig had not noticed anything unusual, but not today. And although his observation skills were not sharp enough to clearly see the person, he saw someone of not very large build enter the commander's tent. When he looked inside, he saw Mearef with his throat neatly cut. Kuetsi, who wanted to check on Mearef as usual, also saw this scene and screamed in horror. This happened about 20 minutes after the scouts returned.
