On May 9th, a 13-year-old teenager was taken to the Republican Clinical Hospital in Buryatia in critical condition, caused by the toxic effects of an unidentified substance. On May 22nd, the teenager died without regaining consciousness.
In connection with this incident, investigators opened a criminal case under the article of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Causing death by negligence." The teenager's mother is suspected of committing the crime.
According to the investigation, on May 9th, the teenager was at home in one of the suburban cottage villages. During the day, the parents noticed a strong smell coming from their son's jacket. After searching it, they found chewing tobacco – naswar – in the pocket.
A month before this incident, the parents had already found the same type of tobacco (non-smoking) with their son. According to the child, he received it from older students at his school. At that time, they had a serious talk with their son.
After finding naswar again, the adults decided to punish the teenager. The mother, without considering the consequences of her actions, allegedly forced the child to eat the tobacco as a form of discipline.
The teenager put the naswar in his mouth, swallowed it, and almost immediately lost consciousness: his heart stopped. The parents tried to perform resuscitation on their own and then took their son to the hospital, where he died a few days later without regaining consciousness.
During the investigation, the substance that the child swallowed was examined. Investigators found that the naswar contained fats, chalk, lime, and crushed tobacco leaves with significant doses of nicotine.
Currently, a forensic medical examination has been ordered to determine the exact cause of death; however, it is most likely that the teenager's heart stopped due to the toxic effects of nicotine entering the stomach and then the bloodstream.
