I agree with Magnus that Life "will be much stronger than the Barbarian." You just need to know when it is best to use a particular spell. I experienced this firsthand in a campaign for "King Arthur," the second one, I think. The Sanctuary helped me out so much there... without it, I wouldn't have defeated that horde at all.
Here is another strength of magical Factions: they have access to magic, unlike the Barbarian, who only has a kick and an arrow from a bow; a mage hero can resurrect their units, but what about the Barbarian? He will die faster while trying to destroy blessed creatures, and if they have Mirror of Pain, then if we are lucky—and we hope so—the Barbarian will actually perish from his own attacks. Haven rules; Life is also good, but Haven is much stronger.
