Just yesterday, I was feeling nostalgic about the first tournament, and now there's a surprise right away! I'll sign up.
Regarding templates: In the SOD, there are at least two reasons why HLs in this format turn into a mess.
#1. The chance for a mage to catch a log is much lower than for a fighter. In the Warlord's Trial, there are other ways to increase speed. Therefore, another way is:
#2. - building a tower. And here's the main problem - the randomness in building control.
How to fix it:
Make the Warlord's Trial functionality with GM rebuilding or remove as many unnecessary spells as possible from the patch.
And about one-sided maps. I haven't tried 8mm6b yet, but they say it helps. Maybe it's time to make it more widely available?
I'd love to play 6lm or 8xm, but the one-sided maps make me lose interest.
Regarding M-maps, I don't think it's worth it. Mages are already the main players on them.
You could add a SM-map and a Kite template, which would be suitable for a short game.
