That's because they shoot. Titans are the strongest monsters in the game. I defeated five Titans against five Lava Golems without any upgrades. First, I shot at them, then I used lightning when they got close, and I didn't take any damage in return or lose health from the fire. It worked great. Besides, Titans are immune to mind control magic and are the strongest ranged attackers in all parts of Heroes.
