Spring 2014 season. Online ranked games (reports, discussions).
Everything was redesigned, and the result was simply terrible. There wasn't a single hiding spot in sight, and the path to the teleport was blocked by Steel Golems in just a couple of turns. There were few resources.
In the end, the AI really won. The opponent would take one town and then retreat, attacking heroes from the chain and so on. I, on the other hand, had a tough time. Without the Earth skill, I managed to get my Magic Skill to 1100+, but that didn't save me. While I was struggling to recapture my towns, the opponent used the AI to clear out Hive after Hive, farming 70+ upgraded Ducks. With Anti-Magic, my weak stacks couldn't do anything. There was an option to get the Air skill and find a Cloak of Disruption or something that prevents casting spells of 3+ levels (Light Bolt would deal about 1.5-1.7k damage), but without the AI or Dimension Door, I couldn't execute the plan.
Thanks for the game!
P.S. Oh yeah, I forgot. It was epic when I took everything I could with my main hero on the first day and wandered around alone for 2 weeks, replenishing my armies in villages and hiding spots (Gnolls), crossed half the map, emerged on the surface, and gave the computer a hard time fighting on two fronts.
