I disagree with the idea that heaven or hell will be exactly as you imagine them. But let's break it down first: Heaven is a place where God exists. Hell is a place where God does not exist. The Bible states that no one knows or can even imagine what the Lord has prepared for those who love Him (regarding Heaven). Sinners are condemned to eternal torment (hell, but it doesn't say there will be fires and cauldrons, although there is mention of the fiery Gehenna). BUT, eternal torment can only be avoided through faith in Jesus Christ, not through good deeds (quote from the Bible: "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not of your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast" – I don't remember the exact reference, but I can find it if anyone is interested). However, we must not only believe and pray but also do good deeds, as "faith without works is dead." Therefore, if you want to go to heaven, learn to love the Lord, give alms, etc. But I want to note that if you pray, pray with your heart (being aware of everything you say, not just reciting some rule), and if you give alms, do it sincerely, not thinking, "I could have bought beer with that money."
