Here's how I see it:
Yes, SMKA is a dispersion template, but if a player doesn't advance from the group on SMKA, the top 3 is unlikely for them, which means there's no need to worry about not advancing from the group based on the draw.
In general, the point is that candidates for the top 99% will advance from groups even on dispersion templates.

IMHO Jebus Cross is no less of a dispersion template; 50% of it depends on how the loot is scattered, what the Town Portal will be like, what is given in Dragon Utopias, and considering the game duration of current beginners on SMKA, the round of eight would be the same, probably ending by 4xx. So, although I was against SMKA in my time, I now understand that it is the only correct option in beginner groups.
