Decided to play as the Queen for the first time, using my favorite Swamp faction. The map is truly overflowing with various objects, resources, and neutrals. As Marmot correctly noted, it's a pure strategy experience, with complete freedom of action; the map is practically a masterpiece. However, I lost very quickly and strangely (it's a shame, of course, and unpleasant to admit, but I lost to the AI). The thing is, on the 2nd month of the game, a blue hero came to me with a couple of Azure Dragons and a good hundred of Gremlins, plus a decent amount of other creatures. The troops themselves weren't bad, but the two Azure Dragons on the enemy side did their dark work...
Decided not to give up and try to play this map again. I chose the Castle as my starting faction and set the difficulty to Shogun, 130%. I decided to play more actively, without getting too distracted by various minor things and countless piles of resources. I quickly captured the neighboring neutral towns, and by the end of the first month, I went on the offensive. Of course, overall, the game was going quite well, and the computer-controlled heroes sometimes made me think, but I still managed to win with small losses. As a result, I relaxed a bit, got carried away with collecting everything shiny on the map, and eventually didn't notice that another 3 months had passed, and by the 6th month, after several battles with the AI, it became clear that I needed to start over.
In general, as I now understand, the map is designed for a very active game; the pace of the game is very high, and you constantly need to move forward and crush the enemy, and moreover, it's desirable to do so in several directions at once. You can't afford to stay put for even 1-2 days. Since the map is full of all sorts of artifacts that the AI also gets, battles with enemy heroes are sometimes really exciting. I think that when I have time, I will try to complete this map. I looked at the map in the editor, and it turns out that on the surface, the Swamp and Human factions start, as it were, in the center, which is not very advantageous on such a map. I think that starting as one of the factions located in the corners would be more convenient, as enemies probably won't come for at least 2-3 months, which creates more favorable conditions for development, advancement, and building up strength.
And P.S.
The map is challenging due to its openness, richness, and pace.
In general, I'll complete the map once and won't replay it, just like "Beautiful World" and "Battle of the Titans," because I don't like maps where there's a possibility of getting various dragons, snipers, and other such troops that are not part of the standard castle roster. Although, most often, it is precisely such maps that are well made.
Therefore, I would like to know what interesting and good fan-made maps there are, preferably L and XL, on which there is no possibility of hiring creatures that do not belong to a specific race and town (Mummies, Trolls, Crystal Dragons, etc.). What fan-made maps can you recommend?
